Mr Vairavan has been a consultant surgeon since 2001.
Mr Vairavan completed his basic medical training from Madras Medical College , India and subsequently trained in general surgery in the UK initially in Wales and finally in the Wessex surgical rotation completing his surgical training with extensive experience in general and colorectal surgery. He has a special interest in minimally invasive surgery (gall bladder and hernia repair). He has trained in laparoscopic colorectal surgery . He is happy to see patients with the following problems:
General Surgery: Gallstones, hernia, skin lesions, benign bowel conditions, lymph nodes and spleen.Colorectal Surgery: Piles, pilonidal sinus , colonoscopy , benign and malignant bowel conditions and inflammatory bowel disease, colonoscopy .Laparoscopic surgery: Gall stones , hernia repair – inguinal and ventral hernias
Mr Vairavan is a resident of Sutton Coldfield since his move from Southampton on completion of training. His interests outside medicine are digital photography and his long-term ambition is to learn to play the keyboard. He is a keen badminton player.
He has a keen interest in training and teaching – He examines for the MRCS exams conducted by the Royal College of Surgeons and the PLAB exam conducted by the GMC for validation of foreign trained doctors. He is a keen teacher and is involved with the training of medical students and surgical trainees. He is a member of the Birmingham and Black Country surgical training programme committee.
