Dr Richard Watkin is a graduate of the University of Birmingham and completed his training in Cardiology in the West Midlands. He is skilled in all aspects of coronary intervention having worked in several high volume centres. He has broad experience in all aspects of general adult cardiology and holds national accreditation in echocardiography (heart ultrasound scanning). He was awarded an MD in 2004 for his research into infective endocarditis. Dr Watkin has published widely on this subject and is a national expert in infective endocarditis treatment and prevention.
Dr Watkin enjoys sports and plays squash competitively, he also enjoys climbing hills. He summited Mount Kilimanjaro at over 5900 metres last year and spend spends spare time on the hills of the Lake District, North Wales and Scottish Highlands.Dr Watkin is a father to two children and this has kerbed his golf handicap which he hopes to return to in later life.
