He prides himself on delivering a high quality service which generates excellent feedback from patients both within the NHS and independent sector.
He has a wealth of general cardiology expertise, in particular with coronary heart disease, heart failure, palpitations and most other disorders of the heart and circulatory system. He has specific expertise in the implantation of pacemakers and the diagnosis (with imaging and invasive tests) and management of heart failure. Many patients with breathing problems have disorders of the heart and Dr Patel has subspecialty expertise in evaluating these patients and managing them to get them back to as healthy and normal a lifestyle as possible. In addition, Dr Patel leads the West Midlands NHS programme on prevention of cardiovascular disease and has set up and run dedicated clinics to assess risk of heart disease and its management in patients with symptoms or family members with heart disease.
Dr Patel has many interests outside medicine. He is a keen sportsman, having played first class cricket in younger days.
He now dedicates a significant amount of time to charity work, chairing the South Asian Health Foundation and also sitting on the board of the National Heart Forum. He has also recently become an advisor the World Health Organisation, publishing several articles in the field of improving population and individual health.
