    Dr Leyva qualified in 1987 from the University of Manchester Medical School. Specialist training was undertaken at Charing Cross and Hammersmith hospitals and the Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals, where he trained in interventional cardiology, pacing and echocardiography.

    Dr Leyva was appointed as a consultant cardiologist at Good Hope hospital in January 2000. His main interests are in coronary disease and heart failure, as well as transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiography, and pacing. Dr Leyva is currently developing biventricular pacing (cardiac resynchronisation) therapy for heart failure and cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging.
