Thursday 5th February saw the official grand opening of Spire Little Aston Hospital's CT scanning facility following a £1.2million investment into its diagnostic scanning capabilities.
Ruth Paulin, Hospital Director, opened the ceremony saying "It gives me great pleasure to welcome you here today for the official opening of our CT scanning facility. At Little Aston we are committed to providing the highest quality of service to our patients throughout the West Midlands. We are delighted to be adding CT scanning to our diagnostic imaging services. Our new, cutting edge system will allow patients to be scanned more quickly and in greater detail, investigating and diagnosing a wider range of conditions often a lot less invasively than was previously possible."
The hospital's existing Imaging Suite, which housed an MRI Scanner, was extended to almost double its size to make room for the new CT scanner which can perform all routine scans with higher resolution and lower radiation dose. The CT scanner will be particularly important as the hospital develop their cancer services over the next year and build one of the first private radiotherapy facilities outside of London.
Eminent local orthopaedic surgeon and Chairman of Spire Little Aston Hospital's medical advisory committee Mr Brian Banerjee was excited by the hospital's developments saying "this is a great day for everyone at the hospital" before handing over to Martin O’ Neill OBE, Manager of Aston Villa Football Club who was invited to the hospital for the grand plaque unveiling, for which Martin said he was "honoured."
Spire Little Aston hospital have worked in close affiliation for many years with Aston Villa. Martin said "I am very grateful for the service that the hospital offers to our team. I would like to thank the hospital for welcoming me here today to celebrate with all of you this fantastic development. It really is a pleasure to be here, and on that note," he continued, "I would like to officially declare the CT scanning facility at Spire Little Aston Hospital open!"
