Spire Little Aston Hospital is now home to a cutting edge 64 slice CT scanner following a £1.2million investment into its diagnostic scanning capabilities.
Ruth Paulin, Hospital Director says ‘this is a very exciting time for the hospital as our new system is far more sophisticated than CT scanners used in many UK hospitals. It will allow patients to be scanned more quickly and in greater detail, meaning that a much wider range of conditions can be investigated and diagnosed.’
The hospital’s existing Imaging Suite, which already houses an MRI Scanner, was extended to almost double its size to make room for the new scanner. The investment sees the end of the mobile CT scanning facility which operated from the hospital car park two days a week and hugely increases the hospitals CT scanning capability.
The scanner can perform all routine scans with higher resolution and lower radiation dose. It can perform all complex procedures including real time 3D image guidance for interventional procedures. Cardiac and vascular imaging is also possible with non invasive techniques, and perfusion imaging of entire organs.
June Haynes a patient who has experienced both the mobile scanner in the past and was one of the first patients to have a CT scan in the new department speaks very highly of her experience she said ‘top marks for the new department it really is very nice, it’s much more comfortable and convenient and the staff are so welcoming’.
CT Scanning is available Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 9.30am and 5pm.
