If you have been diagnosed with cancer or have a relative or friend that has, it will be important for you to know options available for treatment and how to access them. You may be seeking a second opinion or further understanding of your diagnosis.
At Spire Leicester chemotherapy unit we offer:
- the very best treatment possible
- a comfortable, caring, supportive environment
- dedicated and experienced oncology team and day care unit
Our oncology team
The team consists of five highly experienced oncology consultants and two haematology consultants who all work at the Leicester Royal Infirmary in the NHS.
Other oncology consultants can refer into the hospital to any of the consultants listed to the right.
The chemotherapy service is a consultant led service and therefore the consultant oncologists review patients at each treatment and are available by phone at all times.
The team includes two chemotherapy nurse specialists, two chemotherapy nurses and chemotherapy trained pharmacists.
The service currently delivers approximately 1,200 doses a year, for patients who have private medical insurance and for patients who opt to pay for their treatment.
Our chemotherapy unit provides intravenous and oral chemotherapy, biphosphanates and other anti cancer treatments such as monoclonial antibodies e.g Herceptin, Avastin, Cetuximab.
The chemotherapy service has consultants in pain management and direct links with LOROS and the NHS trust for radiotherapy.
After the first consultation with the oncologist, patients for treatment will also have further discussions with a chemotherapy nurse. The nurse will discuss what treatment is involved, how to manage any side effects and give written information packs including 24 hour contact numbers.
Referrals are made through the G.P or through the hospital consultant. Patients can contact Spire Leicester hospital for further information on our cancer & chemotherapy service.
