After qualifying in medicine from Glasgow in 1982 Mr Murty trained at the leading ENT Departments throughout Britain and completed his education with the award of Scholarships to America and Holland.
In 1994 he was appointed Ear Nose and Throat Consultant to The Leicester Royal Infirmary and Honorary Lecturer to the University of Leicester Medical School. As a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, the Royal Society of Medicine and the American College of Surgeons, Mr Murty is one of only a few ENT Consultants to hold Fellowships from both sides of the Atlantic.
Mr Murty's practice covers all aspects of ENT disease and includes clinics exclusively for voice disorders and children's diseases. His specialist practice in snoring uses State of the Art diagnostics techniques and minimally invasive surgery to produce the best results.
As Lead Researcher in Rhinology at the University of Hospitals Leicester Mr Murty has lectured on nose and sinus disease worldwide. He has published extensively throughout the field of ENT and is the author of more than 150 peer reviewed National and International articles. In 2007 he was awarded the prestigious Certificate of Honor for Contributions to the Speciality by The American Academy of Otorhinolaryngology.
Married with twins, a boy and a girl - " a gentleman's family" as described by his old Irish mother - Mr Murty still finds time as a true Scot to enjoy golf and Malt whisky and has been civilised by his time in England to enjoy the finer pleasures of cricket.
