Professional profile:
Gavin Robertson was appointed to the Leicester Royal Infirmary as a consultant surgeon with an interest in laparoscopic and hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) surgery in January 1999. He qualified in 1984 and began his surgical training the following year. He has been involved with laparoscopic (keyhole) general surgery from its beginning in the early 1990’s. From 1993-1998 Mr Robertson trained specifically in laparoscopic and HPB surgery, most of this training taking place in Leicester but broadened by periods of up to a year on other specialised units in Belgium, Australia and Birmingham. This has given him a huge experience of thousands of laparoscopic operations, especially cholecystectomy (gallbladder surgery) hernia repair, anti-reflux surgery and more complex procedures. With many publications on laparoscopic surgery, his experience means he is now a regular trainer on laparoscopic courses at the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He also specialises in major surgery for cancers of the liver, pancreas and bile duct.
Personal profile:
Most of Mr Robertson's spare time is spent with his wife Claire and their three young children - Sophie, Charlie and Joe. In his rare free moments, he manages to get to the gym in an effort to prevent the ravages of age, enjoys rollerblading and windsurfs.
