Background Information 
Professional profile:
Mr Avery studied dentistry at Bristol and read medicine at Cambridge. He was awarded the Gold medal of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. His surgical training has included general surgery and transplant surgery. He was awarded the general surgical FRCS in 1994. He has also undertaken higher surgical training in oral and maxillofacial surgery, specialising in oncology and trauma surgery. Mr Avery was awarded the FRCS in maxillofacial surgery in 1999 and has certification for the specialist surgical lists in maxillofacial surgery, oral surgery and surgical dentistry. He was awarded an MChir in 2006 for his research into facial reconstruction and free flap donor site morbidity.

General interests include minor oral surgery and oral mucosal disease. His special interests include oral cancer, salivary gland surgery, facial trauma and facial dermatosurgery.

Mr Avery also undertakes dental extractions under general anaesthetic (on a day-case patient basis) for patients declining dental treatment under local anaesthetic or sedation.
