Background Information
Professional profile:

Following medical qualification from Newcastle Upon Tyne University in 1987, Mr Banerjee trained in the Midlands and Australia. He was awarded the prestigious Royal Brisbane Infirmary Otolaryngology Fellowship in 1997 and spent a year there enhancing his otological and rhinological skills in particular.

In 1999 he was appointed to the post of ENT Consultant at the University Hospitals of Leicester and in 2003 he was appointed as Clinical Director for Head and Neck Surgical Services in the same Hospitals.

Mr Banerjee's practice covers all aspects of ENT but he runs specialist clinics for Ear disease in adults and children. He has a specialist practice in snoring and uses state of art equipment for diagnosis and treatment. He also runs specialist clinics in Balance as well as Nasal allergy/Sinusitis. An audit of his Allergy/Sinusitis clinic in the NHS has been presented at the Royal Society of Medicine as an example of specialist practice clinics.

He has served on several national committees and is currently Vice President of the Section of Otology at the Royal Society of Medicine. He is also a council member of the British Otology Society and is currently involved in constructing a curriculum of training for future ear surgeons. He is Editor in Chief of "The Otorhinolaryngologist", the premier medical education journal for ENT Surgeons in the UK.

Mr Banerjee's medical research is currently based on allergic disease/sinusitis, as well as hearing loss, tinnitus and ear disease. His publications include research and textbook chapters. He regularly lectures both nationally and internationally and organises an annual international ENT educational meeting in London for ENT Surgeons.

He has extensive experience in nose reshaping procedures also known as rhinoplasty, septoplasty and septorhinoplasty operations. These procedures are sometimes referred to as 'nosejobs'. He has performed these over the last eleven years. He regularly operates on patients with congenital or post traumatic nasal deformities who have varying degrees of functional and cosmetic nasal problems. He attends facial plastic surgery meetings in the USA each year to continue enhancing his skills in nose reshaping surgery. He also has extensive experience in ear reshaping procedures such as pinnaplasty for a variety of ear deformities sometimes referred to as 'bat ears' or 'lop ears'. Mr Banerjee has designed an operation to reconstruct the ear canal in patients with extreme problems. He has lectured on this new procedure and others like it, in the UK and internationally.

Personal profile:
Mr Banerjee is married with three daughters.  He plays the guitar and piano (both badly) and likes windsurfing, squash and golf. He suffers under the load of being a Sunderland AFC supporter and therefore has had little recourse to joy since the FA Cup Final of 1973!
