Dr Wiselka qualified from Oxford University in 1982 and trained at the John Radcliffe Hospital Oxford, University Hospital, Queen's Medical Centre Nottingham, The Regional Department of Infection and Tropical Medicine in Manchester and the University of Leicester as a Wellcome Trust Fellow. He published an MD thesis on respiratory virus infections and a PhD thesis on E.coli adhesins.
Dr Wiselka was appointed Consultant in General Medicine and Infectious Diseases at Leicester Royal Infirmary in 1992 and Honorary Senior Lecturer, at the University of Leicester. His current clinical and research interests include respiratory virus infections, meningitis, antimicrobial and antiviral chemotherapy, hepatitis C and HIV infection. He has become increasingly involved in medico-legal medicine and is on the Register of Expert Witnesses.
Dr Wiselka's clinical practice includes acute general medicine and all aspects of infection including skin and soft tissue infections, chest and urinary tract infections, meningitis/septicaemia, TB, hepatitis, HIV post viral fatigue and travel/tropical medicine.

Dr Wiselka has found that his specialty continues to be challenging and Leicester's multicultural community and their enthusiasm for travel ensures an interesting and varied spectrum of disease. He enjoys travel and the opportunity to pursue his work in foreign countries. His other interests include playing the violin, swimming and spending time with the family.
