Dr Laher has extensive experience in the psychological assessment and treatment of adults presenting with common mental health (e.g. anxiety and depression) and physical health difficulties. He specialises in the psychological adjustment to chronic health conditions (e.g. chronic pain), psychological trauma and adjustment following accident or personal injury, workplace well-being (including work-related stress and discrimination issues) and relationship difficulties. He is also trained in cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT).
He has been qualified for over eighteen years, largely working in NHS adult services across the East Midlands within the specialities of mental health, health psychology and physical rehabilitation - taking a lead role in service development and innovation. He currently works as a Consultant Clinical and Health Psychologist in private practice and is the Managing Director of an independent psychological consultancy, PsyWorks Ltd. Dr Laher has led the Health Psychology service in the South Derbyshire region of the Derbyshire Condition Management Programme from 2004- 2011. He holds an Honorary Lectureship in Clinical Psychology at the University of Leicester and is Honorary Principal Lecturer in Psychology at De Montfort University. He has run numerous psychology related workshops and training programmes for health care staff and has contributed to a number of publications.
Dr Laher likes to keep fit particularly through swimming even if gym attendance is usually erratic! He also enjoys watching most sports especially football, rugby, cricket and tennis. He follows the England football team with his son with whom he also holds season tickets to watch a well known premier league club in the North West! He also enjoys eating out and travel with his family. Quieter times are spent reading non-fiction.
