After running a private nutritional practice in London for just under twenty years (gosh, that makes me feel old!), in January I decided, having moved up to gorgeous Rutland with my seven-year-old daughter Maya, to open another branch of my practice at the Spire hospital. It’s been a great few months, getting to know the consultants here and realizing that as far as dietetic and nutritional care goes, there is so much we can achieve. Historically, as you will see from my website, www.janeclarke.com, I’ve worked alongside all sorts of medical, surgical and mental health consultants and nurses, combining my love of food (which is at the very centre of everything I do, having trained as a Cordon Bleu chef after I graduated), with very well respected advice, anchored in sound scientific principles. Because I’ve also been lucky enough to write books and to be a columnist for many of the national newspapers, I have my finger on the pulse of the investigative journalistic world, which enables me to cut through a lot of the scientific nonsense that is written in some areas of the press, and which so many people find confusing.
I’ve just in fact finished my eighth book, which comes out January 2011, published by Anova. It may seem a long way off, but it’s amazing how much time it takes to shoot all the delicious food photos and to get the design to set the right tone – but having slaved for many a day writing the script, making it beautiful is the fun bit!
I’ve decided to write a regular blog for the Spire site, to keep you up to date with what’s happening. But if in the meantime you’d like to come and see me as a patient, I’m at the Spire Leicester Hospital on a Tuesday and would be delighted to see you.
