Mrs Helene Boonin is an occupational therapist with over 25 years experience in the assessment and rehabilitation of individuals with a variety of upper limb conditions including rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, brachial plexus injury, congenital deformities, acute trauma, plastic and reconstructive surgery and orthopaedics.

Mrs Boonin has had extensive experience in thermoplastic splinting, performing functional capacity evaluations, hand assessments and workplace assessments.

Mrs Boonin has worked in private practice since November 2004. She currently offers her services at a weekly clinic at Spire Leeds Hospital.  Her main specialist areas are as follows:

Splinting: Mrs Boonin offers a specialised thermoplastic splinting service. The splints are custom-made and can be provided for a number of different purposes such as protection, stretching or preventing contractures, following surgical intervention, supporting weakened joints, resting swollen or arthritic limbs or improving function.
Hand therapy: Following a detailed upper limb assessment, a tailored programme of hand therapy exercise and rehabilitation can be provided to improve range of movement, grip strength and function. Mrs Boonin is able to provide specialist equipment to aid independence.
Scar management and desensitisation: Mrs Boonin uses a variety of treatment modalities to improve the texture and appearance of scars, as well as teaching desensitisation techniques to reduce hypersensivity.
Joint protection: Mrs Boonin is able to offer expert advice on joint protection techniques for all rheumatological conditions.

Clinical skills are maintained by regularly attending courses, conferences, in-service training and through membership of Mrs Boonin's professional association and other special interest groups.

Mrs Boonin regularly updates her continuing professional development portfolio using reflective practice. She has a twice yearly peer review with an experienced colleague.

Mrs Boonin is a guest lecturer at the School of Occupational Therapy, University of Huddersfield.

Mrs Boonin runs a clinic at Spire Leeds Hospital every Monday morning.

Mrs Helene Boonin has been married for 26 years to a GP who works in the Leeds area. They have three children.

Mrs Boonin's hobbies include theatre, playing bridge, swimming, badminton and social entertaining. Mrs Boonin is also a member of the management council of a local religous charitable organisation which has 1000 members.
