Mr Sam Saidi graduated from the University of Manchester in 1993 having completed his Medical Science BSc at the University of St Andrews. Although most of his general medical and surgical training was in the North of England, Mr Saidi's general gynaecology training was obtained in Nottingham, London and finally Leeds. Mr Saidi's interest in women's cancer led him to undertake research in this area and he successfully completed a doctorate thesis at the University of Cambridge in 2004, leading to the award of PhD. This research assisted the development of gene array technology in Cambridge and the discovery of a new potential treatment for cancer of the womb. Mr Saidi subsequently returned to Leeds where he completed his specialist training in gynaecological cancer surgery and obtained accreditation in laparoscopic surgery. Mr Saidi was appointed at St James Hospital in 2006 as a subspecialty consultant member of the gynaecological cancer centre. He has been influential in the development of minimally invasive surgery and the colposcopy service at St James.
