Mr Richard Baker offers a general surgical and coloproctology service.
His main areas of interest are advanced laparoscopic (keyhole) techniques in the treatment of colonic and rectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease, as well as specialist proctology including haemorrhoids, fissure and fistula. He also offers a comprehensive approach to the management of abdominal and groin hernias, mainly using laparoscopic techniques.
Mr Baker did his undergraduate studies at the University of Leeds medical school and completed his basic surgical training in Hull.
He gained his MD after a period of postgraduate research at the University of Hull researching the genetic origins of colorectal cancer and the impact of laparoscopic surgery on its management.
Mr Baker did his higher surgical training in the Yorkshire region as well as a senior fellowship at the world renowned specialist centre for coloproctology St Marks Hospital in London.
Mr Baker is an experienced endoscopist and is nationally accredited as an expert colonoscopist allowing him to perform bowel cancer screening colonoscopy.
