Professional profile:
Mark Lansdown was one of the first consultants in Yorkshire to be appointed as a breast specialist. He has helped make Leeds one of the country's leading centres for breast cancer treatment and research. Working with other members of the multidisciplinary team at Spire Leeds Hospital he offers women with breast cancer a full range of techniques for breast conservation, and where appropriate, mastectomy with reconstruction. He does not currently accept referrals for cosmetic surgery in patients who have not had breast cancer.

His other specialty is endocrine surgery. Surgery for endocrine disorders is much less common but Mr Lansdown has built up one of the largest practices in the country for surgery of the thyroid, parathyroid and abdominal endocrine tumours. He is a medical advisor for The British Thyroid Foundation and the Association for Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Disorders.

Mr Lansdown also offers surgery for some common general surgical conditions including hernias and gallstones.

Mr Lansdown is an author or co-author of many research papers on breast and endocrine disease. He has sat on several regional and national committees and currently organises the yearly masterclass in endocrine surgery for the Royal College of Surgeons. He is a member of the National Cancer Research Network Breast Clinical Studies Group and Chair of the Yorkshire Breast Cancer Research Group.
