Mr Abeezar Sarela is a gastrointestinal surgeon with a special interest in laparoscopic (key-hole) surgery for obesity (bariatric surgery). Mr Sarela is committed to the highest standards of professional care and to offer choices, share decisions and provide education and full support to his patients.

Mr Abeezar Sarela offers an in-depth out patient consultation, detailed written information and close post-operative follow-up care. He trained in gastrointestinal and laparoscopic surgery in London, Leeds and New York, USA and has been a consultant in upper gastrointestinal and minimally invasive surgery in Leeds since 2003.

Mr Sarela has a large-volume surgical practice that is focused on the oesophagus and stomach, with extensive experience in advanced laparoscopic surgery. He is fully trained in laparoscopic bariatric surgery and is a core member of the bariatric multi-disciplinary team in the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. Mr Sarela performs laparoscopic gastric banding, laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. He is a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons and the Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons of UK and is listed in Marquis' Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare (2006-2007).

Mr Abeezar Sarela is married to a couple-relationship counsellor and they have one daughter. Outside of medicine, Mr Sarela's main current ambition is to run a marathon next year!
