    Dr Timothy Perren is a consultant medical oncologist specialising in the non-surgical treatment of cancers using chemotherapy, hormonal therapy and the new molecular therapies such as Herceptin (trastuzumab), Tyveb (lapatinib) and Avastin (bevacizumab).

    Modern treatment for cancer requires the careful integration of diagnostic procedures, surgical treatment and medical therapies.

    Treatment is becoming increasingly tailored to the patient and their cancer. Dr Perren believes that it is important to take into account the individual needs and situation of each patient and to involve the patient and their family closely in the development of a treatment plan.

    Dr Perren is a member of the multidisciplinary teams for breast cancer and gynaecological cancers at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and works with the same team of surgeons, radiologists and pathologists in his private practice as he does in the NHS. Through his NHS practice Dr Perren is involved in many research trials investigating the integration of new treatments into cancer care. He is also author or co-author in around 100 research papers and abstracts.

    Dr Perren trained in general medicine in London and in Stoke on Trent; and is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians. His oncology training was in Birmingham and at the Royal Marsden Hospital. He was appointed consultant medical oncologist at St James's Hospital in Leeds in January 1990.

    Dr Perren specialises in the treatment of breast cancer and gynaecological cancers. He provides treatment for newly diagnosed patients, as well as for those with recurrent or metastatic disease.
    Personal profile:

    Dr Timothy Perren is married with 3 boys aged between 14 and 21. In his limited spare time he enjoys walking in the country with his family and 2 dogs. He is also keen on sailing and boating, and is a member of a local sailing club.
