My aim is to offer appointments within 1-2 weeks of referral and to see urgent referrals immediately. I am conscious of the anxiety that is caused on occasions by waiting times for NHS appointments and assure parents that I will never request investigations in the private sector that, if without medical insurance, they may find more expensive than they anticipated.

The first appointment is for 45 minutes, allowing time to make sure that the children are settled. Patients should be referred by their general practitioner or one of my consultant colleagues.

I qualified at St George's Hospital London in 1978 and have worked in paediatric units in Leeds since 1982, initally as a registrar and taking up my consultant post in 1988. I have specialised training in infection related problems and respiratory medicine.

My practice covers all areas of paediatric medicine and I am therefore willing to see children with a wide range of general paediatric problems eg asthma, recurrent cough, abdominal pain, constipation, babies with feeding difficulties etc.

I developed an interest in chronic fatigue syndrome when working on the Regional Infectious Disease Unit in Leeds and offer a service for children and adults with this condition.

I spent my childhood in Leeds and was delighted to return and forward my career here. My family and I settled in Shadwell, just on the city outskirts. We have four sons, only the youngest still at home. We are all, (except my wife!), avid Leeds United fans and have suffered the recent bad times together, keeping two season tickets. Outside of medicine and football I enjoy most walking our two dogs, reading novels and the theatre. We try to enjoy the wonderful Yorkshire countryside as much as we can.
