Dr Simon Everett qualified from Leeds University in 1991 and joined as a member of the Royal College of Physicians in 1994, becoming a Fellow of the Royal College in 2007.

Dr Everett trained in gastroenterology on the Yorkshire Rotation and as a university lecturer in Leeds. He was awarded an MD by the University of Leeds for research into gastric cancer and helicobacter pylori, peformed between 1995 and 1997.

Dr Everett was appointed as a consultant gastroenterologist at Leeds General Infirmary in February 2002 and as Clinical Director for Gastroenterology and Endoscopy in Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust in September 2008 .

He has major clinical interests in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy including colonscopy, small bowel endoscopy and ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio-pancreatography), as well as the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease and investigation of anaemia and gastro-intestinal bleeding involving wireless capsule endoscopy.

Dr Everett continues to be actively involved in research into gastro-intestinal cancer.

Personal profile:

Dr Simon Everett is an outdoor type of person although injuries have forced his retirement from rugby. He remains a keen hill-walker, a good skier and increasingly enthusiastic mountain biker. Dr Everett's family of wife and three children and garden occupy the rest of his time!
