Background Information
Professional profile:
I took up my post at the general infirmary in Leeds in may 1987 and was the first endocrinologist in this speciality in Yorkshire not sharing it with diabetes.

I qualified from Cambridge and Bart's in 1968, was lecturer in endocrinology at the London hospital, did research for my MD Cantab (awarded sir Lionel Whitby medal at MRC clinical research centre).

I did research in Pittsburgh including a paper in science which is amongst the most cited endocrine papers in the past 25 years. I returned to Bart's as welcome senior clinical research fellow and honorary consultant, then moved to Liverpool as senior lecturer in medicine prior to my appointment in Leeds.

My special interests have developed in thyroid and pituitary diseases and osteoporosis. I participate in joint genetics, pituitary and antenatal clinics. I am a founder member and ex-chairman of the British thyroid foundation, ex-president of Leeds osteoporosis society and Leeds branch of pituitary foundation. I was invited to review HRT for the New England journal of medicine, am a past member of RCP endocrinology committee and often teach at society of endocrinology summer schools.
Personal profile:
I am married with three children and a stepdaughter, I enjoy vigorous walks with our springer spaniel and playing tennis badly. I enjoy painting and have exhibited at the royal college of physicians annual exhibition, ( I took a year out to read fine arts at Cambridge).

My expertise and experience in the male menopause was confirmed when I bought myself an ancient MGB last year.
