After training at Oxford University (MA, DPhil) and St Thomas's Hospital London (BM BCh), Dr Martin Muers worked in London, Canterbury and Oxford before taking up his present post in 1981. He has developed particular interests in the diagnosis and management of lung cancer, mesothelioma, occupational asthma and absestos lung diseases. 

Dr Muers has recently retired from full time NHS practice but continues to run an active medico-legal practice.
