Professional profile:
Dr Mark Aldersley graduated from Southampton University Medical School in 1987. He trained first in general medicine and then in gastroenterology and hepatology. Much of his training was in Yorkshire both in Leeds and the surrounding area. Dr Aldersley studied for a PhD at Leeds University in the field of molecular biology and gastroenterology and was awarded his thesis in 2002.

Dr Aldersley was appointed Consultant in Gastroenterology/Hepatology in Coventry and Birmingham in 1999. For a five year period he worked in both general gastroenterology and also set up a specialist hepatology service. Dr Aldersley was however, keen to return to Leeds when the opportunity became available in 2005.

Having worked in different centres as a consultant, Dr Aldersley has a broad experience in gastroenterology/hepatology, along with endoscopic interests which include enteroscopy and endoscopic ultrasound of the GI tract (oesophageal, gastric and pancreaticobiliary).

Dr Alderlsey is a member of the British Society of Gastroenterology, the European Association for the Study of Liver Disease and the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease.

He regularly lectures to medical students, GI trainees, General Practitioners and Patient Support Groups.
Personal profile:
Married to Helen, a liver transplant nurse specialist at St James's University Hospital, Leeds, Dr Mark Aldersley's main interests outside medicine involves sport. A former international runner, Dr Aldersley still travels to watch sports events both locally and internationally. He enjoys participating in running, cycling and squash events. He is also a keen pub quiz participant and enjoys hill walking with his dog 'Ronnie the Retriever'. In quieter moments he enjoys reading and gardening.
