Miranda Dodd, Physiotherapy Manager at Spire Bushey Hospital
I’m Miranda Dodd and I’m the Physiotherapy Manager at Spire Bushey Hospital. I’ve been with Spire for 9 years and it's been quite eventful!
I have a really busy challenging job but I have to say I love it and I wouldn’t change it for the world!
I joined Spire Bushey when it was a BUPA hospital following my return from a 6 month travelling sabbatical. I was an outpatient physiotherapist and became the clinical lead within the department. I remember being amazed at the treatment facilities for patients and the range of equipment. The company sponsored me to complete my Masters degree in Sports Medicine at Nottingham University and I became the Physiotherapy Manager 2 years ago.
I’m responsible for the budget and the performance of the department as well as my team of 16. A large part of my role has been focussing on efficiencies and productivity - I need to be sure I have the right skill mix and staffing ratio to meet the type and level of service that is required. This can change in response to economic and operational factors and I have needed to propose and lead a business redesign in the department, supported by HR.
As well as my role in leading the department, I have some hospital-level responsibilities, such as Information Governance and Vulnerable Adult training, the Hand Hygiene Audit, and increasingly involvement in regulatory compliance and patient safety from a Clinical Governance perspective. I have just taken on the additional role of Project Lead for a new development for the hospital - Bushey will be one of 4 Spire hospitals to introduce radiotherapy treatment for cancer patients in collaboration with Cancer Partners UK.
I’m really pleased to have been given these opportunities for my development - it’s the result of a lot of support from my manager, the Head of Clinical Services and also the Hospital Director. My eventual aim is to become a Head of Clinical Services with Spire.
I have a really busy challenging job but I have to say I love it and I wouldn’t change it for the world!
Spire is a fantastic company to work for - it's fast, it's forward thinking, and you can really make a difference here.
