In the operating theatre you will help to prepare patients for surgical procedures including positioning them safely, and then assist in monitoring their needs and that of the surgical team. This will include the measurement and recording of patients’ body fluid output, blood loss and wound drainage. You will also be involved in preparing, organising and recording surgical swabs and even handling clinical specimens. Your role will be to assist the theatre practitioner throughout the clinical procedure.
A key part of being effective at Spire is team working. As a Healthcare Assistant in theatre you will interact with a range of clinical colleagues, including the UK’s top consultants who have chosen Spire Healthcare as their partner in delivering a range of clinical procedures. You will work alongside highly qualified theatre colleagues in Anaesthetics, Scrub and Recovery, and liaise with the Decontamination Unit as well as Theatre Porters. A key part of your learning will be to respond quickly and accurately to the demands of this team
Training and Development
At Spire we encourage you to study for qualifications relevant to your role, and also those which will help you to progress in your career. We will consider supporting you, financially and with study time, to achieve an NVQ Level 3 in Perioperative Practice, going on to undertake further qualifications to allow you to scrub for surgical procedures.

What we are looking for
Our ideal person is proactive, positive and highly responsible, and has a passion for working with clinical specialists to achieve the highest levels of success for patients who have undergone surgery. You may not have a healthcare background but you will have experience of planning work and acting under your own initiative, teamworking and either patient or customer handling experience. We invest in the training and qualifications of our staff so a commitment to work towards an NVQ level 3 in Perioperative Practice is a must.
A satisfactory Criminal Records Bureau check is essential for this role.
