Ideal candidates are proactive, positive and highly responsible, with a passion for working with clinical specialists to achieve the highest levels of success for patients.

In the operating theatre you will help to prepare patients for surgical procedures including positioning them safely, and then assist in monitoring their needs and that of the surgical team. This will include the measurement and recording of patients’ body fluid output, blood loss and wound drainage. You will also be involved in preparing, organising and recording surgical swabs and even handling clinical specimens. Your role will be to assist the theatre practitioner throughout the clinical procedure.

A key part of being effective at Spire is team working.  As a Healthcare Assistant in theatre you will interact with a range of clinical colleagues, including the UK’s top consultants who have chosen Spire Healthcare as their partner in delivering a range of clinical procedures. You will work alongside highly qualified theatre colleagues in Anaesthetics, Scrub and Recovery, and liaise with the Decontamination Unit as well as Theatre Porters. A key part of your learning will be to respond quickly and accurately to the demands of this team

Training and Development

At Spire we encourage you to study for qualifications relevant to your role, and also those which will help you to progress in your career. Unique to Spire Healthcare is the opportunity for you to be  considered for entry to a university programme  which awards a degree in Professional Studies.

Your career prospects

Successful HCAs who wish to follow a clinical career can consider specialising in Theatre, and complete further qualifications such as Operating Department Practitioner which will lead to a highly paid theatre role.
