Based in our well equipped and pleasant pharmacy within the hospital you will be responsible for accurately dispensing drugs for patients according to their prescription, taking into account the care pathway, potential risks and the patients health and wellbeing needs.

You will provide information and advice to patients about their medicines to promote understanding; and also to the clinical team in the hospital on patients’ pharmaceutical needs and prescriptions.
Planning, controlling and monitoring the purchase and storage of medicines is a key part of your role, and will take into account the current legal, professional and clinical requirements governing this aspect of your job.
This role will bring you into contact with a wide range of people from nursing staff, consultants, and the finance manager to patients and their carers. Their feedback will be essential in helping you to identify where improvements can be made to the pharmacy service. You will maintain a high profile within the multidisciplinary team which may involve discussing barium products with the Radiology team or gluten free ingredients to suit a patient’s special dietary requirements. Your regular ward rounds will involve reviewing patient’s notes for correct drugs and dosage and speaking to patients about pain control or allergies.
Training and Development
Your training starts on the day you join with a comprehensive induction programme, and leads on to mandatory training including infection control, basic life support and health and safety competencies. Dependent on the specialism’s offered by the hospital you may have opportunities to complete further specialist training and qualifications in bariatric, cardiac or chemotherapy services.

What we are looking for
You will have a Bachelors or Masters Honours degree in Pharmacy and be a current member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain. Usually we will require you to be an experienced pharmacist but we often have vacancies for newly qualified pharmacists.
Analytical and numerical skills are required for this role, as well as high levels of accuracy and adherence to clinical and professional standards. Planning and organisation skills are essential and we look for evidence of commercial awareness to ensure effective stock control and efficiency improvements. Your skills in dealing empathetically with patients; collaborating with your colleagues and delivering high standards of clinical pharmacy services will help you to contribute quickly to the success of the department.
A satisfactory Criminal Records Bureau check is essential for this role.
