You will work closely with colleagues in housekeeping, food service and administration to ensure service to patients is synchronised and appropriate. A sign of your effectiveness will be in the way you prioritise and manage demands from your colleagues and patients.
Training and Development
As you would expect of a premium private healthcare provider we invest heavily in your training and expect your full commitment to continual professional development.
Your Spire training starts on the day you join with a comprehensive induction programme to your hospital. We also offer all managers new to Spire a week long residential course, to introduce you to our policies and procedures, and train you in some of our key people management processes such as recruitment, performance management and disciplinary and grievance handling. Through our performance management process Matron will discuss your development needs and career aspirations with you, and agree your personal development plan.
We offer a fast track clinical BSc (Hons) degree programme for those that wish to add to their current professional qualifications. You will be offered accredited modules in law, research, specialist clinical skills, service development, work based learning, reflective practice and management development.
Your career prospects
You can consider studying for further specialist qualifications in Nursing e.g. gynaecology, orthopaedic, cosmetic and breast care or in other education skills, such as NVQ assessment or professional teaching and assessing of students and colleagues.
We are keen to promote from within the Spire network so studying for management qualifications can help you progress within the company. We offer an excellent in-house management development programme, and for those with potential to operate at a senior level we offer a Leadership Development programme too. Many of our Matrons in Spire have been promoted from within and have also gone on to become Hospital Directors. Nursing Services Managers have also successfully expanded their roles to encompass their own particular professional interests, such as education, paediatrics, critical care and this often results in becoming the Lead person in the Spire network for that clinical area.
