Our impressive track record in patient safety and infection control demonstrates our commitment to clinical excellence and patient service delivery. Nurses play an important role in maintaining these standards and ensuring patient satisfaction by providing the essential clinical care and judgement to patients to enable them to recover from their surgery or procedure.

We are keen to promote from within the Spire network so studying for supervisory and management qualifications can help you progress within the company.

Your role will include  managing a group of patients providing clinical skills which include communicating with  them, assessing their immediate and future care needs, and providing specialist clinical activities to aid their recovery and enhance their well-being right through to hospital discharge. This might include care of their surgical site, medicine management, fluid balance and providing personal care, such as bathing.

The wide range of clinical procedures provided by Spire hospitals means that you will be exposed to a diverse range of nursing specialisms: orthopaedics, paediatrics, oncology, bariatics, cardiac to name but a few. Whether working on a ward or in Outpatients, your role will be to care for patients compassionately and efficiently.

A key part of working at Spire is teamworking. As a Nurse you will interact with  a wide range of clinical colleagues in pharmacy, theatres, physiotherapy and radiography as well as nursing. You will work closely with colleagues in housekeeping, food service and administration to ensure service to patients is synchronised and appropriate. A key part of your effectiveness will be in the way you prioritise and manage demands from your colleagues and patients.

Training and Development

As you would expect of a premium private healthcare provider we invest heavily in your training and expect your full commitment to continual professional development.

Your Spire training starts on the day you join with a comprehensive induction programme, and leads on to mandatory training including infection control, health and safety , core clinical and medical devices competencies.

You can look forward to further training in acute illness management, critical care competencies and where appropriate advanced life support.

We offer a fast track clinical BSc (Hons) degree programme for those that wish to add to their current professional qualifications. You will be offered accredited modules in law, research, specialist clinical skills, service development, work based learning, reflective practice and management development.

Your career prospects

You can consider studying for further specialist qualifications in Nursing e.g. gynaecology, orthopaedic, cosmetic and breast care or in other education skills, such as NVQ assessment or professional teaching and assessing of students and colleagues.

We are keen to promote from within the Spire network so studying for supervisory and management qualifications can help you progress within the company. You might consider specialising in Theatre which opens up a whole new career path. The complexity of our services means that we need Critical Care Nurses and other specialist practitioners e.g. Oncology Nurses so whatever your aspirations, it is likely that we can help you to meet them in Spire.

Your collaborative and positive approach to team working will mean you fit in well with our culture. We really value people who are organised and efficient, and who combine this with a genuine empathy for vulnerable and sick patients which is clearly perceptible. We need you to be willing to be flexible in your working patterns and processes.
