Healthcare Assistant positions

Our impressive track record in patient safety and infection control demonstrates our commitment to clinical excellence and patient service delivery. Healthcare Assistants play an important role in maintaining these standards and ensuring patient satisfaction by assisting the clinical staff in providing care to patients, enabling them to recover from their surgery or procedure.

We will encourage you to study for an NVQ level 3 in Health Awards which means that you continue to earn as you learn.

Whether working on the ward, or in the out patient department your role will be to care for patients compassionately and efficiently.

Under the supervision of qualified nurses you will carry out a range of technical clinical skills such as monitoring physiological observations, testing blood, ECG recording and applying simple dressings,. You may also provide personal care such as bathing.  You will provide much appreciated support to staff and help patients and their families during worrying and sometimes distressing circumstances.

A key part of working at Spire is team working.  As a Healthcare Assistant you will interact with a wide range of clinical colleagues in pharmacy, theatres, physiotherapy and radiography as well as nursing. You will work alongside colleagues in housekeeping, food service and administration. A key part of your learning will be to prioritise and manage demands from your colleagues and patients.

What we are looking for

Our ideal person is proactive and positive, and has a passion for working with patients and helping them feel better. You may not have a healthcare background but you will have experience of planning work and acting under your own initiative, teamworking and either patient or customer handling experience. Our business and technology is changing all the time and we invest in your training so a commitment to continual professional development is a must.

A satisfactory Criminal Records Bureau check is essential for this role

Training and Development

“The knowledge part of the award requires the candidates to study in their own time. This is a big commitment but once they start they quite enjoyed it”.

“I feel I could support other candidates working towards this qualification…I never thought I would be as bold as to make a statement like that.”

“All in all I think it is a very well thought out programme of study, and I can thoroughly recommend it to others”.

Working towards the NVQ award raised our three candidates’ confidence and morale levels.
