Having fertility treatment can be both physically and emotionally demanding. Whether treatment is successful or otherwise, individuals and couples can feel they need a little extra support to see them through at all stages of their treatment journey and beyond. IVF Scotland offers a counselling service and access to a support network group, more information about these services can be found below.
Our counsellor is here when you need them at every stage of your treatment
Fertility counselling at IVF Scotland
Fertility counselling is designed to offer support to help people gain insight into fertility issues they may be facing; it will not advise or guide in any way. Partners may choose to have counselling together or separately.
The process of fertility investigations and treatment can impact individuals at a deep emotional level and is often stressful for patients. It can be an anxious time for both men and women, with some people reporting that fertility treatment has 'taken over their lives'.
Individuals will be affected differently, but many may experience these common emotions:
- anger
- envy
- guilt
- loss of control
- social isolation
- anxiety
- low mood
Individuals may require different approaches to counselling at varying stages of fertility treatment and this is reflected in our counselling service. You can see our counsellor at any stage of fertility treatment and many couples may find that discussing concerns and anxieties in a fully supportive environment is hugely relieving.

Fertility support network group
If you are considering, receiving, or have had fertility treatment and wish to share your experience or hear others speak about theirs, our support group with Infertility Network UK could help you.
IVF Scotland is working with Infertility Network UK to provide a free fertility support group for patients past and present, and for those not seeking treatment at IVF Scotland. Support group meetings will begin on Monday 16 January 2012. The support group is open to members of the public and you don’t need to be a patient of IVF Scotland to attend. The group is run by a fertility treatment patient who has had firsthand experience of IVF. Meetings will be held in Beechwood House at Spire Murrayfield Hospital from 6pm.
