Tests for bowel disorders include diagnostic tests such as endoscopy and diagnostic imaging such as CT and MRI scanning. These investigations are used in conjunction with specialised laboratory tests for disorders such as:
- constipation
- diarrhoea
- bowel cancer
- Crohn’s disease
- coeliac / celiac disease
- colitis
- irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)

Laboratory analysis of blood, stool and tissue samples is also used to diagnose and manage these disorders. Common tests include those for anaemia, iron and vitamin deficiency and the presence of blood in stools.
