I attended University College Dublin Medical School gaining my Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery and Bachelor Obstetrics. As a Junior house officer my experiences were in general and colorectal Surgery, general respiratory medicine and oncology at St Vincent’s University Hospital Dublin.
My next year was dedicated to research as a Surgical Research Registrar at Beaumont Hospital. This resulted in my being awarded an MD by the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.
I gained general surgical experience as a General Surgical Registrar in 2001 and 2002 at Waterford Regional Hospital and AMNCH Dublin working in endocrine surgery, endoscopy, breast reconstruction and vascular surgery.
Higher Surgical training posts at St Luke’s Hospital Killarney and Cork University Hospital developed my laparoscopic surgical skills in gall bladder removal, appendix and hernia repair. Then laparoscopic colorectal surgery for benign and malignant cancer work.
Returning to AMNCH Dublin under the supervision of Professor Conlon I gained experience in gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary surgery. Managing pancreatitis cases and gaining further laparoscopic experience in all aspects of colorectal practice.
I came to the Academic Surgical Unit in Hull in 2009 to take my post as Consultant Colo-rectal Surgeon.
