Having obtained my medical degree at the London Hospital Medical College in Whitechapel in 1993, I spent some time as a senior house officer in accident and emergency and neurosurgery, before starting my ophthalmology training in Sutton, Surrey. I worked for 2 years at Aberdeen University Hospital, gaining valuable experience in the management of diabetic retinopathy and inflammatory eye disease.

I started my registrar training in 1999, spending time in eye units in Bournemouth, Portsmouth and finally Southampton, where I gained significant experience in general ophthalmology and cataract surgery. I published several research papers on screening for diabetic retinopathy and anaesthesia for vitreoretinal surgery. I began sub-speciality training in vitreoretinal surgery at Southampton, I began a 10 month fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London and gained further experience in the management of complex vitreoretinal conditions.

I was appointed as consultant at Hull and East Yorkshire Eye Hospital in March 2005. My clinical interests include the management of retinal detachments, advanced diabetic eye disease and macular holes.

I am married and I have three children aged 10, 6 and 4 years. We moved to the Beverley area, and being keen walkers, have fallen in love with the countryside in the Northeast. My two sons are taking a growing interest in Hull City FC. In the village we have found plenty to get involved in as well as taking an active part in the local church. I also enjoy photography and more recently, have started practising my golf swing!
