Professional profile:
I qualified in Edinburgh in 1972, carried out my training as a General Surgeon there and also spent time as a research fellow in the University of Missouri, Columbia USA. My practice is now mainly confined to the investigation and surgery of breast disease although I will still see non-specialist general surgical cases.

Investigation, including access to magnetic resonance and radioisotope scanning, is available in the Hull and East Riding Hospital where the surgery can be done. Patients, who wish to participate, may enrol into any relevant trial for breast cancer treatment and can be supervised from this clinic.

I am the lead clinician for breast surgery in Hull. For 10 years I was chairman of the Yorkshire Surgeons group within the Breast Screening Programme and represented the group on the National Co-ordinating Committee at the Association for Breast Surgery at BASO. I am now the chairman of the breast group in the Humber and Yorkshire Coast Cancer Network.

In addition, I examine for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in surgery and anatomy and act as a Performance assessor for the General Medical Council.
