    Background Information
    Professional profile:

I am a practicing health psychologist with over twenty years experience of working with people with long-term and other health problems.

My health psychology and coaching practice is concerned with helping people manage emotions such as anxiety or stress associated with illness or its treatment, to monitor their illness and cope with any pain that they feel. In addition, I can help where it is important to make health related life changes including stopping smoking, eating more healthily and taking regular exercise.

I have a strong interest in mind-body approaches including mindfulness and positive psychology and hold additional qualifications in clinical hypnotherapy and life-coaching. I provide a teaching input on the Introduction to Counselling Skills programme run by the Centre for Lifelong Learning at the University of Hull and the Aspects of Pain course run by Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust.

    Personal profile:

Outside of work, I am a keen (but lazy) cyclist and try to use my bike as much as much as possible around Beverley and Hull. My wife and I both enjoy walking in the Yorkshire Wolds and North Yorkshire Moors. We are members of a small walking group who meet up every few months to explore the many attractive walks literally on our doorstep.

As a throwback to my youth, I still enjoy going to various music concerts and have a varied musical taste. I have also developed a recent interest in films from the 1940’s and 1950’s.

I believe that it is important to get the balance right between work and play and to keep an active mind and body - with a few indulgences of course.
