Professional profile:
Dr Thackray grew up in Hull before moving to London in 1988 to train in Medicine. MB BS Graduation from St George's Hospital Medical School in 1993 with the award of Distinction in Medicine. Early stints as a junior doctor took place in Hull, Leeds and London followed by examination and the award of Membership or the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP). In 1999 Dr Thackray returned to Hull to work as a research registrar in the department of academic cardiology. Subsequently he was awarded a British Heart Foundation grant to study the interaction between pacemakers and heart failure. Two and half years work provided groundbreaking research in the hitherto unexplored area and has led to a number of publications and the award of a Doctorate of Medicine (MD) from the University of London. Dr Thackray entered the Cardiology Higher Medical Training Programme in Hull as Specialist Registrar, leading to the award of a Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST). He is fully accredited in Cardiology with a sub-speciality interest in Interventional Cardiology. During this period he has remained active in research, with frequent presentations at national and international meetings and invited to review articles on angioplasty, myocardial infarction and cardiac function. Dr Thackray's clinical interests have focused on coronary angioplasty, having undertaken training in Yorkshire and advanced training in Hull, Munich and Singapore. Future directions for this involve promoting the use of angioplasty in the treatment of heart attacks in the region and research into imaging the inside of the diseased coronary vessels during minimally invasive angioplasty, a pioneering technique called optical coherence tomography (OCT). Dr Thackray maintains a strong interest in developments locally, such as Hull York Medical School and the new 'state of the art' cardiology development at Castle Hill Hospital.

Outside of work Dr Thackray spends time with his young family and when possible likes to travel to sunnier climates.
