Background Information
Professional profile:
Dr Richard Oliver was appointed Consultant cardiologist at the Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust, Suffolk in August 1993. Whilst providing a local cardiological service to a large district general hospital, he has provided all invasive and interventional cardiological services to the local population of East Suffolk with sessional commitments at Papworth Hospital, Cambridge.

Dr Oliver qualified from St George’s Hospital Medical School, London in1980 and began his cardiological training as Cardiology Research Fellow at Southampton University in 1987. His DM thesis involved the use of radionuclide techniques in the assessment of right ventricular function. He was Registrar and later Senior Registrar at University College London Hospitals NHS Trust.

He has a special interest in acute myocardial infarction, thrombolysis and the management of acute coronary syndromes. His appointment as Consultant Cardiologist with Hull and East Yorkshire NHS Trust will involve developing a co-ordinated approach to the management of patients presenting with acute cardiac chest pain. He has extensive experience in percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and looks forward to contributing to the expansion of this service in patients requiring coronary artery revascularisation.
