After my MB BS graduation from Dow Medical College Karachi Pakistan in 1978, I came to England after my residencies to gain Post graduate training and qualifications. I did Senior House officer jobs in Medicine in London and Manchester to acclimatize myself to the practice of Medicine in this country.

I commenced core psychiatric training in Yorkshire in 1987 mainly in Hull and East Riding and gained extensive experience in the assessment and treatment of psychiatric disorders in all ages. After getting my MRCPsych in 1990 I embarked on Higher Specialist Training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry between 1991-1995 with the Yorkshire Deanery, doing Senior Registrar jobs in Leeds, York and Hull.

 I was accredited with specialist registration in Child Psychiatry and appointed as Consultant in 1995, with the local Mental Health Trust in Hull and East Riding.
I worked as a full time NHS consultant in CAMHS until I retired in March 2010. I was awarded the Fellowship of the college in 2006.

During my time as an NHS consultant I was the Clinical lead for the doctors and the lead for Clinical governance in CAMHS.

My main area of work was the Tier 4 complex disorders service. I came across vast Nos of children with complex emotional and behavioural problems at school due to social and communication difficulties, whose needs were not being met due to a failure of understanding of their disorder. These children were often labelled as odd, eccentric or naughty and parents often felt blamed.  I developed a special interest in children with Autistic Spectrum Disorders, and trained in the use of formal assessment tools for ASD.

 From the Spire Hospital I would like to concentrate on offering a high quality Diagnostic Service for Autistic Spectrum Disorders as this service is patchy and poorly developed locally and regionally with disastrous consequences for children and young people. Timely and accurate diagnosis of ASD is essential for accessing the right specialist provision mainly within education

My husband is also a doctor and works as an Ophthalmic Medical Practitioner in Hull. We have one son who is a junior doctor in training in Leeds. I enjoy cooking and both of us like travelling and learning about different people and cultures.
