I qualified at Oxford University gaining an intercalated BA degree in Physiological Sciences with Honours in 1993 and a prize in Cardiology (jointly awarded) in 1996. After general professional training in England, I was appointed a British Heart Foundation Clinical Research Fellow in Scotland where I performed echocardiography, nuclear myocardial perfusion scans and others tests on many stroke survivors. I found silent but potentially lethal cardiac diseases are common in stroke survivors. This led to several publications in good Cardiology journals and a higher research degree (DM) from Oxford University. I received specialist training in Cardiology and General Medicine in Liverpool, and am in the specialist register, having been accredited in both Cardiology and General Medicine. I have been a Consultant Cardiologist since 2008. My subspecialty interests are in Heart failure, CT coronary angiography and stress echocardiography. I received CT training in London and Johns Hopkins in the USA. My current research interest now focuses on heart failure, and the use of advanced echocardiography techniques to carefully asses potential left ventricular function improvements with novel therapy in heart failure.

I am the Course Director of the Focused Echocardiography in Emergency Life support course in Hull. The course attracted consultants and other doctors from across the country (e.g. London, Oxford,
Edinburgh, Newcastle, as well as locally). Feedback was overwhelmingly positive.  

I am married to Suzanne and have two children. I love playing the piano and tennis.
