Mr Ramachandran Ravi, consultant urological surgeon, joined Basildon & Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in 2007. He obtained his primary medical qualifications and postgraduate qualification in urology from the All India Insitute of medical Sciences in New Delhi. He received further training in urology in London and was a senior registrar at St Bartholomew's, Royal London and Royal Marsden hospitals.
Before coming to Essex, Mr Ravi was a consultant urological surgeon at Dartford & Gravesham NHS Trust in Kent, where he was lead clinician for urological cancers. In recognition of excellent clinical services provided, he was awarded a Certificate of Merit as an NHS Champion in both 2003 and 2004. His patients had nominated him for this award which is administered by the King's Fund and the London Evening Standard.
Although Mr Ravi manages all general urology conditions, his special interests include benign prostatic disease, prostate cancer, rapid access referrals for haematuria and elevated PSA, and testicular conditions including cancers. He has extensive experience in laparoscopic and open radical surgery for urological cancers and specialises in bladder reconstruction following radical pelvic surgery. He has performed over 425 radical operations for urological cancer over seven years, including 100 radical cystoprostatectomies with ileal conduit/bladder reconstruction.
Mr Ravi has about 65 scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals relating to urology and urological cancers.
