Background Information
Professional profile:

Mr Matthew Hearth is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Spire Hartswood Hospital in Brentwood Essex, offering private lower limb orthopaedic surgery in our clean and comfortable private hospital.

Mr Hearth, consultant orthopaedic surgeon, joined Basildon & Thurrock (Essex) University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in January 2009. He obtained his primary medical degree from University College London in 1993. His orthopaedic surgical training was via Guy’s, St Thomas’ and Kings’ College Hospitals.

Mr Hearth’s initial training in orthopaedics and trauma was supplemented by Fellowships in lower limb reconstruction. Further Fellowships included Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore, King’s College Hospital and Travelling Fellowships in North America and the UK.

Matthew Hearth has a special interest in lower limb reconstruction. This includes hip and knee replacement surgery and the revision of hip and knee replacements (surgery for patients who have had a previous hip or knee replacement, and require a repeat operation). In addition, Mr Hearth performs knee arthroscopy, cartilage regeneration surgery and knee ligament reconstruction. Mr Hearth also performs osteotomy (re-alignment) surgery around the knee for young patients with osteoarthritis.

Mr Matthew Hearth’s current research interests revolve around improving pain relief following joint replacement. Mr Hearth is developing techniques whereby patients would spend only one night in hospital following hip or knee replacement.

Mr Hearth’s approach to his private practice at Spire Hartswood Hospital mirrors that of his NHS practice, providing modern, evidenced-based treatments. Mr Matthew Hearth endeavours to always be available for his patients and provide a kind voice when needed.
