Mr Kandiah Ratnakumar is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Spire Hartswood Hospital in Brentwood, Essex, and Spire Roding Hospital, Redbridge, Essex, offering specialist private hip, knee, foot and ankle surgery and general orthopaedic surgery in our clean and comfortable private hospitals.
Mr Ratnakumar also works in the NHS at Queens Hospital in Romford. He was originally appointed as orthopaedic surgeon at Rotherham district hospital, South Yorkshire, before moving to Essex. Mr Ratnakumar had also trained for a year in Canada.
Mr Ratnakumar is an orthopaedic surgeon with a particular interest in knee replacement and sports injury of the knee such as meniscal surgery and ligament reconstruction, anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction and multiple ligament reconstruction.
Mr Ratnakumar started computer assisted (navigated) knee surgery at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust and offers this to private patients at Spire Hartswood and Spire Roding hospitals. He believes that navigated knee replacement helps with the alignment as well as the survival of the prosthesis.
Mr Ratnakumar has a keen interest in the patient specific (bespoke) knee replacement surgery and corrective osteotomy for early arthritic knee joints (carried out with or without the navigator). He also has an interest in corrective surgery (medial patellar femoral ligament reconstruction) for recurrent dislocation of the patella.
