St Peter’s Primary School, Brentwood, Essex, has had a healthy kickstart for 2010 from Spire Hartswood Hospital.
The hospital invited children from each year group to submit drawings on the theme of staying fit and healthy throughout the year to illustrate their official calendar.
Given recent Government initiatives to promote health and wellbeing, part of the incentive behind the art initiative was to encourage children to think about what it means to be fit and healthy and how they would represent this in artwork.
Drawings were chosen to represent a range of activities and have been used to produce striking A4 calendars of which Spire Hartswood Hospital produced and donated 500 to the school to sell for school funds.

In addition, A5 format calendars were produced for distribution to GPs and other health professionals throughout the local area.
Mark Gilmour, Hospital Director at Spire Hartswood Hospital said: “It has been an enjoyable and very worthwhile project for us. It has helped us to build links with the local community, as well as impart a message to younger children about what it means to be fit and healthy.”
Mr Iain Gunn, Head teacher at St Peter’s primary school said “Health and well being are at the heart of our school, the children really enjoyed being involved in this community project which was both educational and fun. It is a real added bonus that we can also raise funds for the school at the same time”
