Mr Raymond is a highly experienced breast cancer surgeon with more than twenty years experience in the management of breast diseases. He received his initial surgical training in Northern Ireland and advanced training in St Bartholomews Hospital and The Royal London Hospital. He is now the senior surgeon attached to the Breast Unit of West Herts NHS trust. Mr Raymond carries out rapid diagnostic assessments for every patient, and has immediate access to a radiology imaging service, thereby providing a one stop diagnosis for the majority of patients. When needle samples are taken for tissue diagnosis, Mr Raymond works closely with a specialist breast pathologist to ensure that the diagnosis is available to the patient as soon as possible, usually within 48 hours.
Mr Raymond works with a multidisciplinary team of breast specialists to provide a holistic and tailored care package to meet the needs of each individual patient in their treatment plan. He aims to empower his patients and their families by providing them with an explanation of the diagnosis and the rationale for the proposed treatment options, which he finds puts the patient in control of their clinical condition.
Mr Raymond has many years of experience in breast cancer surgery. Every surgical procedure is designed to combine surgical clearance of the disease with good cosmetic result. Where reconstructive surgery is anticipated, he operates jointly with highly skilled plastic surgeons at Spire Bushey Hospital. He carries out sentinel lymph node biopsy using combined isotope and blue dye techniques.
Mr Raymond attends national and international conferences dedicated to advances in the management of breast cancer, in order to maintain the highest standard of care for his patients. Through his membership with The Association of Breast Surgeons within The British Association of Surgical Oncology, he updates his practice continually and ensures that he keeps at the forefront of all research and medical advances within his speciality. He regularly attends conferences held by The European Society of Surgical Oncology in order to be aware of the advances in European standards of practice.
