Mr Shah qualified from St George's Medical School in 1985. He then trained in the speciality in a number of London teaching hospitals including Charing Cross and Westminster Hospitals (registrar), Chelsea and Westminster and St Mary's Hospital (research) and Guys and St Thomas Hospitals (senior registrar).

He took up his first consultant post at Mayday University Hospital in Croydon in 1999 but the lure of coming back to where he was brought up (Stanmore) led him to move across the river to Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals NHS Trust. His training as a senior registar was specificially in minimal access surgery and he is accredited in this speciality.

Mr Shah is married to his long suffering wife Jagruti and they have three daughters with whom he adores spending any spare time. He also looks after his mother and aunt both in their 70's believing strongly in the extended family. With so many women in the house his waistline needs constant attention which he tries to keep in control with his love of the outdoors. His favourite is rambling and not surprisingly his personal greatest achievement has been to trek up Mt Kilimanjaro.

Born in Mombassa near the Indian Ocean, swimming is second nature to him and he recently completed a PADI open water diving course. He continues to try skiing but has been spotted more off rather than on the slopes.

His ambition is to continue to enjoy what he does both professionally and personally by remaining in good health and to live long enough to spend plenty of time with his children and hopefully grandchildren.
