Background Information
Professional profile:

I spent three years as a senior registrar in Urology at the Institute of Urology in London and at the Royal Marsden. This was invaluable experience, working with world renowned surgeons.

Having completed my training, I was offered a consultant post in Saudi Arabia, where I later became Head of Urology, until my return to the United Kingdom. As a young consultant in the Middle East, I had an enormous variety of urological problems to deal with. This was where my interest in difficult reconstruction of the urinary tract began. I had to reconstruct ureters, bladders, urethras, and very complex Vesico vaginal fistula repairs on these very unfortunate women.

I was appointed as a Consultant Urological Surgeon at West Herts NHS Hospitals Trust where I was able to use my general surgical and urological experience to pioneer and reconstruct a bladder following a total cystoprostatectomy in 1995. The first in Hertfordshire and one of the earliest in the country. My main interest is bladder cancer, diagnosis and treatment. I perform an average of 20 total cystectomies a year. I have so far, reconstructed 107 neo bladders which would rank as the highest for an individual surgeon in the United Kingdom.

Although a large proportion of my time is spent dealing with prostate and bladder cancers, I still continue with my paediatric urology which was my early interest and at present deal with the common urological problems including hypospadias repairs.

Personal profile:
I am married and have three children, the two boys are keen cricketers and represent Herts County. My youngest daughter is keen on ballet, netball and playing the piano.

I enjoy both playing and watching tennis, cricket, table tennis and badminton.

Our favourite holiday is Portugal where we can all relax and enjoy the beach. That may change when the children are older!
