Mr Bolger is one of the first surgeons to introduce microincision cataract surgery to the UK. He is invited to lecture extensively both in Britain and abroad and his surgery masterclasses are very highly rated. He has carried out over 15,000 cataract operations and among his patients are 20 eye surgeons.

While I was a Surgeon at the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital in Welwyn
Garden City, I developed a special interest in the surgical management
of cataract. I was one of the first surgeons to introduce phakoemulsification to Britain and went on to develop a high volume, high quality service for the NHS.

In 1994 I left the NHS to work in the independent sector and carried out over 4000 cataract procedures on their behalf. In the past 10 years I have carried out over 10,000 cataract procedures.

I have been continually auditing my results and in the most recent twelve month period these show success rates equal to or better than internationally published data.

I regularly teach both in the UK and abroad and am Course Director of the Winter Acadamy of Ophthalmology in Austria. I often lecture and operate overseas and have designed instruments for cataract surgery which bear my name.

I run one of the few Biometry courses (pre operative testing for cataract surgery) in the world and these are attended by NHS and overseas professionals.

My innovative and forward thinking nature extends to my home life where we have recently completed a 21st century Eco friendly house, designed by the architect Anthony Hudson.

I am a keen equestrian and also a rugby referee.
