Clinical aspects of breast cancer

 My main clinical interest is in breast cancer, thyroid disorders and hernias. My higher surgical training was in Wessex and East Anglia and I trained in breast and endocrine surgery at Norfolk & Norwich and Addenbrooke’s Teaching Hospitals. My PhD was in surgical oncology (Southampton University Surgical Unit). I was appointed as a Consultant Surgeon in 2001. Most of my elective work is with breast cancer, thyroid lumps including thyroid cancer, parathyroid disorders and hernias, and I also do emergency on-call for my NHS hospital for all general surgical emergencies. I am an active clinical researcher in breast cancer with a large number of published papers in peer-reviewed journals and national and international presentations. I also train surgeons, teach medical students from UCL and am an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons as well as a Final MBBS examiner. I am presently the lead clinician for breast cancer for the Mount Vernon Cancer Network.
I see patients with breast complaints, thyroid lumps, hernias and other lumps in my clinic at Spire. I offer a “one-stop” service (Tuesday PM clinic) for breast and thyroid problems where an experienced consultant radiologist is also present in the clinic to do the relevant radiological investigations and any needle tests that may be necessary during the same visit. I offer open repair for umbilical, inguinal, femoral and incisional hernias. I also see patients with lymphadenopathy and other “lumps and bumps”.

I live with my wife and two children in Hertfordshire. I spend most of my free time with my children. I do a lot of non-medical reading and also like playing cricket.
